There’s something charming about a prom-like gown worn with chunky trainers. Call it a hangover of teenage rebellion or the Rihanna effect, the combination evokes ultimate give-a-fuck glam.
Annakiki SS19 captured this enigmatic spirit. Shown on the first day of Milan Fashion Week, the collection mixed unconventional silhouettes with contrasting textures and fabrics. Pairing the uber-girly (think sequins, ruffles, saccharine pastels) with clumpy platform trainers, sportswear and distressed denim, the brand’s designer Anna Yang presented a vivacious and experimental vision of femininity.
Oh, and the accessories: radium green PVC bags, snakeskin boots, a heavy dose of strong sunnies and elbow length gloves that would be well-placed in The Matrix as much as the school prom.
