Growing up in a household filled with 80s and 90s sound waves like Sade, Brandy and Aaliyah, you’d expect nothing less than blissful R&B from Amber Olivier.

You’re not wrong. But the North London singer-songwriter brings additional nuanced touches – her tender vocals showcased by self-assured, atmospheric compositions.

Her latest track “One Unread” is no exception. A heart-twingeing R&B/pop win, it’s packed with dreamy looping layers and melancholic lyrics, seemingly influenced by the inner turmoil experienced from receiving an unsolicited late-night message. “Do you want to get away from here – and when?” We’ve all been there.

“I like encouraging people to wonder,” Amber explains about the track. “The video, like the song, is open to interpretation and there really is no right or wrong answer, but to me, ‘One Unread’ is about eventually parting ways… with whatever that may be.”

Accompanied by gorgeous desert-shot visuals, Olivier gazes at her reflection in the shards of a broken mirror and reminisces on a past relationship.

Prepare to have on repeat for the foreseeable future.
