Minimal piano intros. Thumping percussion. Heart-twinging acoustic guitar. Random synths. Agreed, it might not exactly fit into the cookie-cutter recipe for a banger. But the confident – if not slightly strange – compositions from London/Berlin-based artist, Bad With Phones, somehow just work.
Tracks morph from ballads to heavy electronic numbers like it’s the most natural thing in the world – all whilst held together by the vulnerable vocal tones of Bad With Phones (aka Manny).
And now, these uniquely engineered bedroom bops are getting even more deserved air-time, as BWP drops his debut three-track EP, “Bang Bang Chicken”.
“Bang Bang Chicken is that moment you are about to get some chicken and you can’t decide whether you want the breast or thigh… it’s a real heartache,” Manny lightheartedly explains.
“It’s about being torn between two places, so you end up having to shoot the whole place up. It’s a real tragedy really.”
Fair play.
