WONDERLIST

Our favourite songs and visuals doing the rounds right now.

Blood Orange – “Charcoal Baby”

Dev Hynes is back in a big way. Ahead of the release of his much-anticipated new album, Negro Swan, the first single “Charcoal Baby” is pretty heavenly. Saxophone, 80s pop-funk elements, and as Hynes puts it, “an honest [lyrical] look into the corners of black existence”. Directed by moving image maestro Crack Stevens, the video is a rich celebration of culture and family, and we are so here for it.

ZHU x Tame Impala – “My Life”

Prepare to feel every single feel in the world after watching the gorgeous visuals for “My Life”, the result of a collaboration between American electronic singer, ZHU, and Aussie psychedelic rockers, Tame Impala. Surging synth tones plus v. danceable looping vocals all soundtrack Willow Smith just being an unbearably cool teen tearaway (expect skateboarders, house parties and sunset hangs).

Pale Waves – “Eighteen”

Fans have been waiting with bated breath for the release of Pale Waves’ debut album, My Mind Makes Noises. And now, the Manchester indie-pop fourtet have announced its September drop date, along with a glittering new single, “Eighteen”. Flickering synths run through the glossy pop track, with teenage dream lyrics transporting us back to endless six-week summers. “We sat on the corner kissing each other/Felt like I could finally see in colour.” I mean, c’mon.

Miles Kane – “Cry On My Guitar”

Ever wanted to see Miles Kane get the shit kicked out of him? OK, probably not that high on your agenda. But his latest music video is pretty cool for that very exact reason. The rocker takes on WWE wrestler Finn Bálor in pulverising hand-to-hand combat worthy of any Bond or Bourne film. And the song itself? Co-written with Jamie T and inspired by the pulsing grooves of T-Rex, be still our indie-loving hearts.

A$AP Rocky x Tyler, The Creator – “Potato Salad”

Any music vid that starts with Tyler, The Creator wearing not one, but two, quilted Chanel bags deserves an Academy Award, no? And the latest collab between A$AP Rocky and Tyler impresses in more ways than one. In front of the Eiffel Tower (obviously, where else?), the pair flow over 90s R&B icon Monica’s twinkling tune, “Knock Knock”. Genius.
