“What makes a man?” It’s an old-age question that’s been explored at length, again and again. But at a time where the conversation surrounding modern masculinity and indeed, what makes a man, is constantly being challenged, it’s never been as in flux as it is now.

And now, a new short documentary, Boys – an extension of British portrait photographer Rosie Matheson’s series of the same name – takes a raw look at this radically changing idea of masculinity.

Shot by London-based filmmaker Kaj Jeffries on dreamy fragmented Super 8 film, the film features frank discussions with young British men exploring gender identity.

They get to grips with their views on the often damaging preconceptions of maleness, and give a revealing look of what it means to be a man in today’s society.
