Streaming through a moving car with the windows down, or infiltrating the heavy air during a scorcher of a park chill. It may only be their debut single, but enigmatic London-based group, Kira, has already unwittingly created the soundtrack to your summer with “If It Makes You Feel Better”.
Don’t get us wrong. They’re not exactly newbies to the music industry – Kira is made up of London-based pair, Katie (formerly of woozy electronic group RITUAL) and Will (from synth-rock duo Crystal Bats). And with eclectic influences ranging from Blood Orange to Fleetwood Mac, the result of their union is a laidback pop offering with dreamy synths, hazy guitar melodies and crystalline vocals.
“The whole thing came together really quickly. I’d made a basic track and sent it to Katie and within minutes she replied with a voice note of the chorus melody. It was at that point we decided to form the band, and Kira was born,” Will explains.
On the track, they add: “People have a tendency to play games, whether or not they’d like to admit it, and often it can feel like you’re dating with your egos rather than focusing on having a genuine connection with somebody.”
