LOUIS VUITTON SPRING 2019 MENSWEAR

Virgil Abloh’s debut show does not disappoint.

It’s been three months since Virgil Abloh was announced as the new menswear designer for Louis Vuitton, and it’s been three long months waiting to see what wonders he cooks up. Luckily, it was well worth the wait.

Yesterday Abloh presented “The vocabulary according to Virgil Abloh”, his SS19 menswear collection for Louis Vuitton at Paris fashion week. The 56-look collection was shown on an ombre rainbow catwalk on the gardens the Palais-Royale.

“The biggest goal for a first collection in any scenario is to start so that people can understand the new vocabulary”, Virgil wrote on Instagram before the show. Attendees were gifted a dictionary, or as he put it, “a liberal definition of terms and explanation of ideas”, which included details about his background and influences.

His casting was diverse and the show notes, “a global view on diversity linked to the travel DNA of the brand”, detailed models’ birthplace and that of their parents. It also featured Palace skaters Lucien Clarke and Blondey Mccoy, a neat reference to the designer’s streetwear roots.

The show was beautiful; it even made Kayne West cry real tears! While you’re waiting for that to become a hay fever meme, relive the magic below.
