It’s coming up to the World Cup and our faves The Rhythm Method have taken it upon themselves to give us the unofficial World Cup anthem to triumph over all other unofficial World Cup anthems. Featuring instantly catchy hooks and the kind of lyrics that work perfectly when yelled loudly at your pal with a cider in your hand, join us in chanting “Chin up England!” as we inevitably get knocked out in a blaze of glory in the quarters.
It’s been a while, so here’s what we’ve been obsessively listening to.
The Rhythm Method – “Chin Up”
The 1975 – “Give Yourself A Try”
I mean, it’s no surprise that the new 1975 song absolutely slaps. The first taste of their upcoming third album A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships and the introduction to the “Music For Cars” era, “Give Yourself A Try” is an absolute banger and just cements the fact that The 1975 are the best fucking pop band in the world. Also Matty has orange hair now…
Idles – “Danny Nedelko”
Bristolian punk babes Idles are not slowing down. Announcing their second album Joy as an Act of Resistance, the group have shared pro-immigration lead single “Danny Nedelko” which revolves around their Ukrainian pal who the track is named after. A biting and brilliant piece of post-punk, it’s time to get very very excited for what their sophomore record has in store.
HMLTD – “Pictures of You”
HMLTD are back with new music and it’s been worth the wait. Releasing their latest slice of deliciously dark glam-pop, “Pictures of You” is our first look at their upcoming EP “Hate Music Last Time Delete”. Speaking on the song, the group say: “In the internet age, nothing is ever truly removable, and no one entirely forgettable. The effect this has on love and heartbreak is tragic. ‘Pictures Of You’ was written as a song about masturbating to photos, sent by your ex-partner, that you can’t delete. We look at old photos or videos and believe we still love the person in them, but really, we just love that image of them. Then those images become mere vehicles for our own self-love. Like Narcissus himself, you lose yourself in the reflection offered up by these images and the tragedy is complete.”
Zuzu – “All Good”
Oh, how we love Zuzu. The Liverpudlian songwriter is getting us even more buzzing for her debut EP “Made On Earth By Humans” – which comes out on the 22nd – with the release of her newest song “All Good”. An absolutely beaut new track highlighting her enchanting vocals, it’s a slow-burning sizzler and an exciting look at what’s to come.
Saltwater Sun – “Hot Mess”
It’s time to start getting excited about Saltwater Sun. Dropping their newest piece of fuzzy pop-punk perfection, the Reading quintet sizzle with potential and it’s clear they’re about to kill the game. Get involved.
