Founded by Hameed Hani, they strive to make pieces which are gorgeous yet affordable, and are always ahead of the curve in what’s hot in the design world. We caught up with Hani to find out even more…

What drew you towards creating home ware?

The concept for 5mm Design Store was derived from the challenge I faced to source unique and beautiful interior accessories to style my interior design projects without the over-the-top price tag that comes with them. I want to give my customers a shopping experience that reflects the world of luxury interiors at accessible prices.

What’s your favourite piece you’ve ever created?

As furniture piece, the bespoke Bronze TV Unit from my Marble Arch project. The unit is covered with hand textured bronze lacquer. As a Sculpture, the Standing Raptor.

Where do you find your inspiration?

I find a lot of inspiration for my design from fashion. I like to keep up with trends and translate that into the interior design world. I also take inspiration from ancient artifacts, music and art deco magazine covers.

What are the top trends in homeware for 2018?

Rich colours in interiors is one of the top trends in 2018. Greens, Mustards and violets (colour of the year) are some of the colours that are used on furniture, walls and wall sculptres. This trend is visible in our Wall Sculptures such as the Green Rosette, Green Leaves and Blue Circles 3D Metal Wall Art.

Another trend for 2018 is Metallic Accents, specifically brass. Our Sculptures and Decorative objects embody this trend through the use of brass sculpture details such as the Brass Birds collection and Brass details in our Rock Crystals Collection.

What can you tell us about it about your next collection?

I’m currently working on using Black Chrome to create limited edition high polished wall sculptures and planters.

I’m also working on new furniture designs that are inspired by some of my decorative objects. I want to incorporate sculptural details into the furniture to create bold statement pieces.
