WONDERLIST

The songs we’ve been listening to on repeat this week.

BAD WITH PHONES – “Needles”

London/Berlin based BAD WITH PHONES has shared his stunning debut lo-fi track “Needles” and it’s an exciting glimpse of what else he’s got in store for us. Talking about the track he says: “‘Needles’ is about this really sweet girl I used to date who was super cool but also really insecure and wanted me to live in an insecure bubble with her. After a while, I was basically ready to move on so I did and came up with the song realizing how much the relationship had drained me.”

PLAZA – “In The Know”

Hartlepool indie babes PLAZA are back with their latest bitingly beautiful number describing “when you feel like the world is watching you, and that you know too much – it’s all going to turn out okay in the end.” An absolutely killer tune, we can’t wait to see what they do next.

Bad Nerves – “Can’t Be Mine”

Hailing from East London, garage-rock quintet Bad Nerves have dropped their third offering and its further proof of how they’re going from strength to strength. A bold and brilliant number, “Can’t Be Mine” is the latest piece to get us excited for their debut full-length which we’ll hopefully be hearing v soon.

Strange Boy – “Hot Breath”

Once again showing why you should be paying attention, Strange Boy have returned with two new tracks, “Love Remains” and – our fave – “Hot Breath”. Blending vocalist Kieran’s ethereal vocals with Matt’s electronic and production skills, their goosebump-inducing music continues to wow.

Snail Mail – “Heat Wave”

Giving us our latest look into her debut album Lush – out June 8th – Snail Mail is back with her newest track “Heat Wave”. A delightful piece of guitar pop, it’s a captivating number proving just why she’s being hailed as one of the most exciting acts around at the moment.

Pete Yorn & Scarlett Johansson – “Bad Dreams”

Giving us the first taste of their new EP “Apart”, Pete Yorn and Scarlett Johansson are back with “Bad Dreams”. Their first new music since 2009’s Break Up record, Scarlett says “Being able to revisit this project with Pete in a totally different context but within the same creative parameters is a unique artistic opportunity for me. It is always a pleasure to sing with Pete because I think our voices and stories complement each other.” We can’t wait for more.

Boy Azooga – “Jerry”

Boy Azooga – the brainchild of musical mastermind Davey Newington – have returned with “Jerry” and we’re already resigned to the fact we’ll be listening to nothing else this week. Taken from the upcoming record 1, 2 Kung Fu! – out June 8th – Davey says of the song: “‘Jerry’ is one of the oldest songs on the album. I took inspiration from a song called ‘Do I Get So Shy by Shoes’, it’s understated and calm with sweet lyrics. I like how the singer is asking questions in the lyrics of that song, it makes it more vulnerable.”

Matt Maltese – “Nightclub Love”

Our fave South London crooner is once again making our hearts melt with latest release “Nightclub Love”. The latest look into his debut album Bad Contestant – out, shock, June 8th – if you’re not already in love with Matt Maltese, you’re about to be.
