Arriving in tandem with the conclusion of London Fashion Week – five days of designers, artists and creatives presenting their latest aesthetic ideas to the masses – a new exhibition from Virgil Abloh and Takashi Murakami.

Launching tomorrow at Mayfair’s Gagosian gallery, “future history” sees the Off-White designer and iconic Japanese artist exploring the times in which we live with a series of striking pieces that marry the pair’s unique trademarks, thought up together in Murakami’s Tokyo studio.

“We want to see the newest things,” notes Takashi of the show and its look into the future (and subsequent impact through art). “That is because we want to see the future, even if only momentarily. It is the moment in which, even if we don’t completely understand what we have glimpsed, we are nonetheless touched by it. That is what we have come to call art.”

Abloh meanwhile, puts his motivations here down to culture itself. “We are driven by an innate ambition to make art works that are shaped by societal observations,” he reasons, “in a variety of media, which by their existence produce a new cultural impact.”

future history is at Gagosian gallery until 7 April.
