WONDERFOOD: INDIAN ACCENT

Mayfair’s latest spot lays on the luxury.

At times, all we need of an evening is good company and some luscious cuisine. Well, though your choice of date is entirely on you, we can fully guarantee the latter in the form of Mayfair’s Indian Accent. Following its multi award-winning outposts in New Delhi and New York, the restaurant, which opened just last month, is here to let us indulge our senses, offering an innovative approach to Indian cuisine.

Infusing a contemporary culinary edge to traditionally grounded recipes, both nostalgic home dishes and rare foods from lesser known Indian regions and communities are proposed. Amongst them, soy keema, quail egg and lime leaf butter pao and kashmiri morels, walnut powder, parmesan papad will entice the most daring amongst us, while satisfying traditional palates. Chef Manish Mehrotra highlights rarely seen Indian foods such as makhan malai, a medieval dish made of aerated milk infused with saffron, and playful presentations such as the ghee roast lamb with roomali roti pancakes, inspired by the format for Peking duck. The new London location will also feature local produce and creative spins on British classics: think black pudding, stuffed here inside kulcha flatbreads.

And just to seduce our senses even further, the restaurant’s décor screams luxury, designed by Design LSM. Combining elements of marble, brass and combed pearl-lustred walls to create a contemporary backdrop – the space features rich crushed emerald green velvet upholstery and a striking spiral staircase which leads to an intimate lower ground floor restaurant. With this kind of ambience, you’re sure to leave feeling like royalty.
