PREMIERE: BAUM – “EFFORTLESS”

A captivating confessional from the LA-based songstress.

BAUM is a great friend. Seriously. Real name Sabrina Teitelbaum, she penned her latest track, “Effortless”, as an empowering anthem for one of her best mates after she was fucked over by a guy. “My friend was dating this awful dude for such a long time and he had cheated on her,” BAUM says. “I was there and saw him do it and it honestly broke my heart. I woke up the next morning and went to the practice rooms at USC and wrote the song on piano. I wrote the verses first and it was going to be a sad ballad – my interpretation of her experience and how she was feeling. Then I got to the chorus and just got so wildly angry and that tempo change and scream thing came out. I guess I turned the song into how I wanted her reaction to be – empowered to a certain extent, focusing more on the anger than the sadness. I wanted her to realise her own strength and self worth so I wrote that into the song.”

Releasing the song today, it’s an alt-pop banger that will further establish BAUM as one to watch out for. Showcasing her cutting songwriting skills and hypnotising vocals, it’s a poignant and beautiful track rife with pulsating synths, as the song winds through from one about sadness to one of vengeful anger.

A glimpse at the kind of greatness we can expect from the Californian songwriter, prepare to fall in love. Just make sure you don’t cheat, yeah?
