PLAYLIST: BLUE HAWAII

The alt-pop duo on the producers we should know about.

After four years apart, Blue Hawaii – aka Raphaelle “Ra” Standell and Alexander “Agor” Kerby – are back. Dropping their new album, Tenderness, earlier this year, the experimental pop duo dive into the world of online relationships, exploring the highs and lows that go with them. In a stunning mix of sounds, the tracks incorporated influences of classic house and synth pop to create a technicolour record bursting with romanticism.

Now heading out on tour, including a show at London’s Pickle Factory on the 21st, we got the alt-pop duo to take time off from rehearsing and give us a rundown of the producers and artists we should definitely be listening to.

Giving us a little intro too, Standell and Kerby say of the playlist: “A little overdone maybe, but there’s something so perfect and relaxing about that ~lo-fi~ sound. And a lot of these producers are friends so let’s rep up!”

Dig in now…

DJ Fett Burger & Jayda G – “NYC Party Track”

Great vibes. Both these producers are worth seeing if you catch them DJing in ur town!

Soichi Terada – “Do It Again”

Hardly an underground deep-dive but a classic that a lot of modern stuff borrows ideas from. The synth line is the definition of infectious.

Project Pablo – “Closer”

Edits of live guitar / bass / drums with a catch synth line. Def worth checking out if you haven’t heard yet!

SSOL – “Untitled B1”

Samples (very heavily) “Instant Funk – Got My Mind Made Up”, and succeeds! This maintains that good vibe, we totally play this out.

Pacific Coliseum – “Ocean City”

Don’t know much about this artist but the name is lifted from an old sports stadium place in Vancouver.

Unknown Mobile – “Valerian (Edit)”

Wish we could include UM’s latest EP but its not out yet! Check out “Valerian” in the meantime.

Leon Vynehall – “Brother”

This is the flip side to the classic “Sister”. Anything by Vynehall is quality, esp with those distinctive drums.

DJ Longdick – “Haze”

Mostly chose this one for the name, but it’s a chill groove so whatever. You def won’t mind having it on in the background lol…

Deepsmith & Hush Hush – “We Don’t Stop”

Super basic acid techno that won’t destroy your living room ;).

Ross 154 – “Sun”

An oldie ambient thing. Check out the album, nice music to sleep to.
