PREMIERE: CHILDCARE – “GETTING OVER YOU (BY DRESSING UP LIKE YOU)”

The quartet drop a surreal debut video.

“After being the victim of a polite yet painful breakup, I found myself later that same day wearing one of the skirts of my former inamorata for a video shoot the band was filming,” singer Ed Cares says of the inspiration behind CHILDCARE’s latest single. “Realising this was an A* creative writing idea for a song, I quickly noted down the title ‘Getting Over You (By Dressing Up Like You)’ in my gmail drafts folder and the song flowered from there.”

Luckily falling into the category of banger as opposed to Buffalo Bill, the weird and wonderful track depicts the unorthodox way of getting over an ex with hypnotising hooks and a technicolour indie-pop flair. The follow up to their incredible debut EP “Made Simple”, it highlights the band’s craft at creating captivating pop songs and shows off what an exciting band they are.

Dropping the accompanying video today, the four-piece are giving us a surreal take on stock photography. Speaking on the visuals they say, “We wanted to avoid a literal portrayal of the song (eg dressing up in your ex’s clothes to get over them) and for some reason the world of stock photography kept returning to me when I’d close my eyes and try to imagine visuals for it.” Directed by Danny Nellis, the debut video sees the quartet recreating classic stock images – lovers holding hands in deckchairs etc – blending the bizarre and the brilliant to create a perfect first video.

And, hey, who doesn’t love a trout handshake?
