With an origin story you wouldn’t expect to result in friendship, Reuben Styles and Adam Hyde first met after realising they were going out with the same girl. “We met years ago at the local skatepark.” Styles recounts. “I was waiting for my mates to rock up and I recognised Adam skating the mini ramp. He and I had been dating the same girl so we just started laughing and chatting about her. Next minute we started hanging, going to the same parties, and sleeping with more of the same girls!”

The start of something wonderful, the two not only bonded over their shared taste in women but also over their love of music. Eventually wanting to see if they could do it themselves, the pair started creating tracks together and Peking Duk was born.

First gaining attention with their 2012 bootleg remix of Passion Pit’s “Take A Walk”, the duo have gone on to craft an impressive discography showing off their talents in experimenting with music. “We’ve written psychedelic rock songs in Mumbai, rap songs in New York, pop songs in Sweden and we plan to do a lot more experimenting too!” Hyde tells me. “We find it all so fun!”

Dropping the latest addition to their long list of incredible singles last week, Styles and Hyde are now cooking up album plans. “We are working on the idea of releasing an album.” Styles confirms when I ask if there’s a record on the way. “It’s been a long career so far without ever having released more than one song at a time. It’s overdue!”

Their previous release, “Fake Magic” featuring the brilliant AlunaGeorge, is a truly exciting glimpse at what the album may hold. An uplifting, pop-tinted electronic track, it’s an instant dance floor filler, triumphing realness in an often materialistic world. “In this day and age everyone’s so caught up in that fake shit and it’s becoming a real problem.” Hyde explains. “A person can come into someone’s life and show them the beauty of the real things the world has to offer. Real love and companionship. No fancy cars or big houses.”

Giving themselves a six month goal for the new album, the pair are destined to win over millions with their refreshing and original style. Already amassing a very loyal fan base, the duo hit headlines a few years ago when a fan managed to talk himself into their dressing room after a gig by editing their Wikipedia page to say he was a family member. I ask whether that’s the craziest fan moment Peking Duk have ever witnessed. “There’s been some crazies over the last few years.” Hyde laughs. “But it’s all love!”
