R.M. WILLIAMS × BLITZ MOTORCYCLES

What happens when iconic Australian cobblers meet a bespoke Parisian garage…

A bootmaker and a motorcycle engineer walk into a bar… Well, maybe not a bar (although, who knows?), but Australian footwear brand R.M. Williams, and the team of the Parisian custom garage, Blitz Motorcycles, have certainly put their heads together for their latest collaboration. A match made in heaven, to celebrate the craftsmanship that goes into producing each brand’s products, they’ve teamed up to bring us, not only a super-luxe footwear collection but also a custom, one of a kind, motorbike which, for a cool £40,000, could be yours.

So how does one go about creating a cohesive footwear-meets-engineering collection? For R.M. Williams, the answer was obvious: they simply had to go back to their roots. Rather than trying to fix what ain’t broke, the brand decided to recreate two special editions of their original motorcycle boot, the Scrambler, which was first conceived in 1993. Amped up for a contemporary audience, the shoe has been refashioned in two leather options, chestnut crocodile, an exotic leather available through the brand’s bespoke service and black New Zealand cowhide, a leather exclusive to the collaboration. However, with prices ranging from £595 and £4,995, these might be a pair of boots you’d want to keep off the road and save for best.

As for the bike itself, Blitz Motorcycles decided to create an enhanced version of the drover motorcycles used in the Australian outback to herd cattle, in a nod to R.M. Williams’ heritage. With a lower frame, knobbly tires and track handlebars, this bike is poised and ready to tackle both sandy deserts and grasslands. Good to know, should you ever find you need to ride across the Sahara. Just like the boots, the motorcycle is finished with exotic chestnut crocodile on its saddle, handlebar grips and tank straps and, for the lucky person who gets their hands on it, will come already equipped with a pair of the matching boots.

For those of us that don’t quite have a need for speed, but just like oggling at nice things, the R.M. Williams x Blitz motorcycle will be on display on the lower ground floor at Harrods throughout October, where you can also catch a film that documents the six months of work that went into this extraordinary collaboration. Race you there…
