RALPH LAUREN PRESENTS STADIUM

The brand revisits 1992 with a limited edition new capsule collection.

As if giving pop culture fans Selena Gomez and Cole Sprouse wasn’t enough cause to celebrate 1992, the year also claims kudos for giving retail fans their first look at Selfridges’ now iconic yellow shopping bags and sports fans a summer of exhilarating television, courtesy of one Olympic Games.

This season it’s the latter Ralph Lauren celebrates, with the launch of Stadium, a commemorative reinvention of the brand’s Polo Stadium Collection, first launched in 1992 as an aesthetic tribute to the Games in Barcelona.

Arriving in a rare and exclusive pop-up at Selfridges tomorrow – likewise at the Polo Ralph Lauren flagship on Regent Street – the 12-piece collection is comprised of several iconic pieces reissued from the Polo archive (which found inspiration in the trackside wardrobes of American athletes circa 1920 through to 1939), alongside a number of pieces with a more contemporary vibe.

Boasting a core palette of red, white and blue – as per America sportswear rules, probably – the full line-up sees fleece sweatshirts adopt varsity sleeves and track jackets entertain classic silhouettes and chest pocket details; a hooded popover with original graphics elsewhere features alongside a colour blocked Polo shirt. And did we mention there were caps too?

London fans can get it tomorrow from Polo Ralph Lauren – 169-173 Regent Street – or Selfridges’ Stadium pop-up on Edward Mews; for the rest it can be shopped here.
