PLAYLIST: BILLY LOCKETT

The singer-songwriter takes us through his fave tracks.

With a voice that will instantly give you goosebumps, Billy Lockett is on the way to becoming everyone’s favourite songwriter. Already gaining a huge amount of buzz, Lockett’s voice is completely magical and has established the Northampton-born artist as a force to be reckoned with. Soon to be taking on Bush Hall’s stage at an already sold out show later this month, Lockett has put together a playlist of the songs that have inspired his journey so far.

Tune in below…

Ludovico Einaudi – “Twice”

I adore Einaudi’s music. This song in particular is so simplistic with a great dark feel to it. I’m a sucker for minor chords.

Oh Wonder – “Livewire”

Oh Wonder’s whole first album had a huge impact on me but this song is stand out. That piano riff is mega, I wish I’d written it!

London Grammar – “Non Believer”

This song is all vibe and I love it, the chorus is huge and Hannah’s voice gives me goosebumps every time I hear it! The whole album is flawless in my opinion.

Bon Iver – “33 “GOD””

This whole album is probably the strangest thing I’ve ever heard, it breaks every rule music can have and still somehow works perfectly. This song in particular has so many twists and turns, as well as beautifully subtlety sampling Paulo Nutini’s “Iron Sky”.

Radiohead – “Everything In Its Right Place”

Radiohead was all I listened to when I was a teenager but this song always got to me the most. The whole song is basically a riff build which makes it almost hypnotic.

Coldplay – “Rush Of Blood To The Head”

You can’t get better than early Coldplay, this song is perfect in every way. Incredible lyrics and arrangement, I love the simplicity of Chris Martin’s songwriting most of all.

Ray Charles – “Georgia On My Mind”

This song blurs the lines between ballad and blues, Ray was one of the first people to merge the genres and I’ve tried hard to put everything I’ve learnt from him into the songs I write now. He’s a huge inspiration to me.

Bruno Major – “Just The Same”

Bruno is a new emerging artist, the second I heard this song it had me in a trance. The guy is so talented it’s ridiculous and this song to me shows him off in a brilliant way.

Lewis Capaldi – “Bruises”

Really into this tune, love Lewis’ raspy vocals and how stripped back the piano is. The chorus is an explosion vocally too which really hits me hard!

Tom Walker – “Heartland”

I love the words in this song, it has a great story line to it with a great concept. It’s really inspired me lyrically.
