There was a time, pre-smartphone, when the camera quality on a mobile phone was the be all and end all, the phone’s raison d’etre. Now in an era of smartphones – even our parents have them – the camera, while an essential part of any phone, has become very much a given and one of many components rather than a stand out feature.
Kodak have decided to shake things up, taking on the challenge of making photography the focus of the phone once again with the new Kodak Ektra smartphone. A 21st century update of its original Kodak Ektra camera, released in 1941, the new smartphone features a 21-megapixel, fast focus camera sensor, a 13 megapixel front facing camera, and a broad range of settings and adjustments to produce customised, quality images.
We can place all our confidence in Kodak to deliver when it comes to cameras and photography, but why not a smartphone? Judging from the photos used to capture the holistic and folksy feel and energy of this year’s Wilderness festival, the Ektra produces snaps worthy of Instagram royalty – and then some.
