BACKSTAGE PASS: FLOHIO

Photographer Joseph McDermott meets Flohio.

In a unique access-all-areas series, south London based photographer Joseph McDermott goes behind the scenes with music’s finest.

Straight after a high energy headline show in association with Just Jam and Dr Martens, rising SE16 MC Flohio met with Joseph to discuss her dream tour line-up, inspirations and the future.

So who are you, and where are you from?

I’m Flohio, a rapper from Bermondsey, South East London.

How did you get into creating music?

I’ve always enjoyed music, I grew up around it and always thought I’d enjoy it from a distance until I came across an Eve CD and (started) listening to Lil Wayne.

How would you describe your music?

Engaging and defenseless; my lyrics reflect my life stages.

If somebody hasn’t listened to Flohio, where should they start?

“Fights”

What song can you not get enough of right now?

YCee & Maleek Berry – “Juice” // SZA – “Drew Barrymore”

And your favourite artists right now?

Rae Sremmurd, 070 Shake, A2 and SZA.

Who are your biggest inspirations?

Lil Wayne, Big Sean, Serena Williams.

And which artists should we be watching out for?

Knucks (“21 Candles”), NEHMY (“Zeus”), Cassive’s (TLC) new release (watch this space).

Best gig you’ve ever played?

Don’t think I’ve played my best show ever just yet, but a good show that I’m just like yeah “take me back” would be when I did the Dazed “No Leash” show with Mykki Blanco – the crowd were on point. It was a good night for everyone.

You’re organising the dream tour, who are you sharing the stage with?

Little Simz, SZA, Big Sean, Rae Sremmurd, Wiz Kid, Lil Wayne, Tory Lanez and Clams Casino

What can we expect next from Flohio?

Working on some new music which will be dropping soon – and working on my live shows.

 Any final comments?

 No.
