Kenzo: Cabiria, Charity, Chastity

Natasha Lyonne directs the brand’s AW17 campaign film.

Dropping this September, Cabiria, Charity, Chastity is a new film written and directed by actress Natasha Lyonne for Kenzo: the fifth in the fashion house’s series of fantastical features. Recognisable from American Pie – and more recently playing the fiesty Nicky in Orange is the New Black – Lyonne is no stranger to larger than life storylines (fans of the French label will likewise remember her from AW16’s short, where she played one of Laura Harrier‘s mothers).

Here however, the collaboration sees her introduced to the director’s chair for the first time, and she’s enlisted a host of talent to mark the occasion: a double whammy for creative directors Humberto Leon and Carol Lim, if you will.

Following Chastity, played by Maya Rudolph, as she is forced to plunge through a parallel universe into a surreal journey to confront her troublesome past, Cabiria, Charity, Chastity elsewhere stars Matt Lucas, Macaulay Culkin, Ahluwalia, Leslie Odom Jr, Fred Armisen and Greta Lee, as well as the debutant director herself. Set in a curious Vaudevillian world of wonder, it’s made all the more wonderful by costume design from Arianne Phillips (who recently worked her styling magic for Wonderland with Madison Beer); Casper Sejersen lenses the accompanying campaign.

Joining the likes of Gregg Araki, Sean Baker, Carrie Brownstein and Kahlil Joseph as the fifth writer/director to team up with the brand for a campaign short – and with two Tribeca Film Festival Tribeca X Award nominations already acquired by the group – it’s safe to expect great things.
