Bruta: Anglo Tango

The label calls on Arthur Yates’ heritage for AW17.

Giving us a lesson in British History for AW17 is the London based fashion label, Bruta. Founded in 2015 by artist Arthur Yates, the label’s eccentric embroidered shirts have since generated quite the following.

For Anglo Tango Yates has paid homage to England’s rich history, taking the most intrinsic elements of British culture and reworking them into a contemporary collection that oozes sophistication and playfulness. The brand’s signature shirt has been reimagined in shades of green, blue, black and white so to resemble England’s lustrous countryside, while an ample smattering of tartan has been used throughout. Tying everything together is an assemblage of embroidered badges that embellish shirts, polo-neck jumpers and 1930s-style British coats; our favourite has to be one of the depictions of Henry VIII’s unfortunate wives.

In honour of the new collection, Bruta has released an accompanying short – above, produced and directed by Pheobe Saatchi – in which a young man is led to a bar full of mysterious, Bruta-adorned characters. We can’t guarantee that the collection will grant you that level of fantasy, but it will certainly resemble the brand’s signature sense of humour.
