Blue Roses: Chapter Two

Edward Meadham follows up with a more rounded new offering.

“I didn’t know what to expect or if anyone would care – particularly as the range was so limited,” Edward Meadham tells Wonderland, addressing the initial delivery of Blue Roses. “I was scared that people would have expected a complete collection of very lovely delicate and elaborate pieces, but the T-shirts I guess were much more accessible.”

With at least two tees doing the rounds of the Wonderland office at varying intervals, he was bang on the money. Now though, the Meadham Kirchhoff co-founder is returning with a second collection – Chapter Two – that boasts an extended offering and a new retailer in Matchesfashion.com (Dover Street Market, from which Chapter One debuted, remains a stockist).

“Chapter Two is far more developed and rounded – Chapter One consisted predominantly of just T-shirts and hoodies – but Chapter Two is a step closer to becoming a full collection. This time there are dresses, shirts, stockings, shoes, knitwear, bags – as well as T-shirts and hoodies,” he continues. “My favourite is the shoes – I’m really pleased with them and that they exist.” We’re likewise thankful that the accompanying shoe boxes, designed by Ian Segantini and spotted on Instagram, made it into the world.

A darker follow up to the first chapter’s pastel make-up – a nod to Meadham Kirchhoff’s similarly confrontational seasonal moods, perhaps – the new collection sees Meadham reinterpreting the 1970s, with inspiration found in Christmas crackers, Stepford Wives costumes and the likes of Ossie Clark, Laura Ashley and Barbara Hulanicki’s Biba. Dubbed a “season-less wardrobe for girls and femme minded people” by its creator, flirtations with Riot Grrl continue the work of Chapter One, noted perhaps most prominently in the aforementioned tees.

Lensing the look book, pictured here, himself, Meadham tapped set designer Tony Hornecker to create the stunning backdrop, while the model line-up features the artists Faye Wei Wei and Hatty Taylor, CSM Diana Maclean and Lizzie Farrell, better known by the moniker Glacier Girl.
