Georgia May Jagger × Volcom

The model makes a splash with a new collection for the skate label.

As a member of the ocean conservancy organisation Project 0, Georgia May Jagger’s recent collaboration with Cali label Volcom is perhaps quite a natural progression for the model. The 15-piece collection – which boasts three pieces of swimwear and a rather fly green neoprene dress – is designed for the environmentally conscious customer (the swimwear has been made from recycled fishing nets), and is already in demand amongst fans. Eager to learn more, we grabbed five with the model in Paris.

Have you always been a fan of Volcom?

Yes, I have loved the brand since I was 12. I feel like it kind of had a different look from what it has come into now; all of the boys I knew used to wear it. When they called me I was like, “oh isn’t it a skate brand?” and they said “no, we want to have you as an ambassador” which was really exciting.

You’ve mentioned previously your fondness for skateboarding and music. Would you ever go into either professionally?

I don’t think that’s a good idea at this stage of the game. Never say never though!

So your Volcom collab, how did it come about and what’s your involvement been like?

They called me. I have always been into mood boarding ideas, so I created a mood board. All of the swimwear is recycled fishing nets; I wanted to do it justice and make the clothes amazing even though it was recycled. It’s inspired by neon 80s look, but I wanted it to remain a touch tomboy too, things that could go from day to night.

Do you have a fave piece?

I love all the swimwear.

You’ve been teasing the collection on Instagram for a while. What’s your secret for taking the perfect Insta snap?

Keep your eyes open! I just turn brightness up – don’t really use the filters.

Noted. So who are you following on Insta currently?

Lots of weird dorks. Memes. There is one called Remember This Happened; me and my BF love niche popular culture weird references. All that kind of stuff. More jokes. I appreciate all the fashion stuff but I also follow a lot of animals.

We’re in Paris! What shouldn’t we miss?

Eat as much as you can as the food is so good. Walk around, especially when it’s a hot and sunny day – markets, flower shops, museums.
