New Noise: Jarreau Vandal

Chatting to the remix whizkid.

Hailed by Diplo as “the future”, Jarreau Vandal is the 24 year old making waves with his remixes. Born in Maastricht and raised in Amsterdam, Jarreau was first introduced to the world of music production by his granddad when he was 16. Since then, he has gone on to be welcomed into LA collective Soulection, releasing his incredible white label EP, and has seen praise from the likes of MistaJam who commented that “whenever you see this gentlemen’s name on a credit, you know you’re in for pure fire.”

Getting ready to release some more fresh takes on original tracks this year, we caught up with the remixing royalty to find out more.

Hey Jarreau, how are you today?

Mixed feelings, got back from a beautiful vacation in Indonesia. I feel so much more free in Indonesia. Though here is where all my friends and family are. I guess it’s back to work until I can move them all to Indonesia, haha.

If you could hang out with any artist, dead or alive, who would it be?

Stevie Wonder, Curtis Mayfield, Kurt Cobain, Pharrell, Minnie Ripperton, Tania Maria.

We hard that your granddad introduced you to music production. Could you tell us a bit about that?

My grandad produces/composes music and is a musician he plays the sax, piano, clarinet and the flute. Whenever is was at his place i asked if i could mess about in his program and he thought me the basics. I was hooked!

You’re part of the Soulection collective. How did that come about?

I started a clubnight in Amsterdam called Wavefiles which is focused on edgy and new electronic music. we once booked IAMNOBODI for a show and I played him my productions. He was into it and asked me to send him everything. Before I knew, my songs appeared in the Soulection radio show and I got asked to release a white label. This was my first release ever.

What exciting things have you got lined up for this year?

A few more singles, a mixtape, VANDALIZED EDITS VOL.III, And a whole lot of good energy!
