New Noise: Mondo Cozmo

The mysterious man everyone is talking about.

If you like your music, chances are you’ve probably heard the name Mondo Cozmo buzzing about online over the last year. The project of Philadelphia-born Josh Ostrander, the former frontman of Laguardia and Eastern Conference Champions, Josh first started recording under the alias last year. Putting out a string of incredible singles, including “Shine” which reached the coveted #1 spot on Billboard’s Adult Alternative Songs chart, his unique take on rock’n’roll is captivating and makes you instantly want to groove along.

Still yet to release an album, we caught up with the mysterious Mondo Cozmo to find out all about him.

What music did you listen to growing up?

I started playing guitar when Nirvana’s In Utero came out. Beyond that I just listened to whatever my older brother listened to which was mostly 90’s Brit pop

Who would you say are your main musical influences?

Springsteen. Gallagher Brothers. Beck.

Where does the name Mondo Cozmo come from?

My dog’s name is Cozmo. I wanted something that would look cool on a shirt.

For those who aren’t familiar with your records, how would you describe your sound?

Hits recorded in a guest bedroom.

Your track “Shine” hit the #1 spot on Billboard’s Adult Alternative Songs chart earlier this year. What was that like?

You dropped your newest track “Sixes And Sevens” earlier this year. What was the inspiration behind this song?

I just wanted a song that sounded like Walkmen’s “the rat”

You’re currently on tour. What’s your favourite thing about performing live?

The fact that I’m not digging holes.

What’s been your most memorable moment on stage?

Montreal about a week ago. Playing “Plastic Soul” to about 10 thousand people and they all broke out their phone lights and started waving them around. It’s was fuckin’ powerful.

What else do you have lined up for 2017?

Like 80 festivals, a headlining run, and then Rehab.
