Amongst a backdrop of knitwear, John Smedley last night hosted an evening of poetry to mark its spring campaign in collaboration with the multi-talented Greta Bellamacina, aptly named The Poetry of Colour .

As a film-maker, model and mother, Bellamacina is the perfect muse for John Smedley, which continues to build on its impressive collaborations (past partnerships have seen the brand teaming up with Lou Dalton and Margaret Howell).

Following introductions from Wonderland, Greta noted that the audience would hear three separate poems taken from her collection; the first, ‘Silent Riot’, was written specifically for the collaboration. In it Bellamacina explores the journey of Sea Island Cotton and the poet’s imagining of it, coming across the sea to be used as part of the British brand’s iconic knit range.

Following ‘Silent Riot’, Greta shared two other poems, one of which explored the death of Leonard Cohen, before engaging in a Q&A within which she discussed her thoughts on why poetry remains to be a popular emotional outlet in an age of technological advancements and digital media. She also shared an insight into her upcoming projects and her favourite poets – which turned out to be a pretty non-exhaustive list.

The evening was rounded off with a reception for guests to enjoy a drink, explore the highlights of the John Smedley spring collection, and speak to Greta one on one about her work; a unique set of limited edition postcards, featuring stills from the John Smedley x Greta Bellamacina campaign film and written prose from Greta, were also available.
