Creators of the world’s finest knitwear, John Smedley has teamed up with poet and film-maker Greta Bellamacina who has written a gorgeous new poem especially for the occasion: Silent Riot: The Journey of Sea Island Cotton, marking the brand’s equally as dreamy SS17 collection. Inspired by the nature of women, the collection explores colour and texture with a focus on John Smedley’s Sea Island Cotton, all of which helped to inspire Bellamacina and is reflected in her writing.
John Smedley is well-versed when it comes to working with impressive collaborators. Recent team-ups have seen them work with Lou Dalton, Margaret Howell and Commes Des Garcon.
Of the latest collaboration, Greta Bellamacina said: “I was drawn to John Smedley – through the etymological journey of their fabrics, I think there is something quite magical about the cotton they use, I love the idea of cotton being blown on warm winds from the Bahamas over the sea, which reflects all the colours of the world”
