Roya, meaning “magnificent dream” in Persian, is the name of Brooklyn’s freshest post-punk band. Having formed in 2015, Roya have since compiled a vast number of shows, opening for Fat White Family, Black Lips, Curtis Harding, King Tuff, Arto Lindsay, Ex Hex, Dilly Dally and Entrance, to name just a few.
An aggregation of some of Brooklyn’s most profound talent, including former Habibi lead vocalist Rahill Jamalifard, bassist Alix Brown of Angry Angles, drummer Hamish Kilgour from The Clean, guitarists Jay Heislemann from Grooms and Christian Sawyer, Roya are set to release their debut LP on 2nd June via Burger Records.
Their latest single, “A Sickness”, provides an exciting preview into their forthcoming album. Reflective of the five piece bands strong pedigree, Roya blends post-punk and psychedelia to create a primitive and simultaneously hypnotic track, with Jamalifard lending her sultry, soulful tones beautifully to the lyrically earnest record.
We can’t wait to hear the rest of the album!
