Premiere: HOTT MT – "At Night In China Town"

We join the psychedelic duo on a night out.

#25 on LA Weekly’s “The 30 Best LA Rock Bands from the Past Decade,” LA based duo Spooki Tavi and Ashi Dala, otherwise known as Hour Of The Time Majesty Twelve (HOTT MT), are taking the psych-rock world by storm. Since their formation in 2012, HOTT MT have collaborated with the likes of The Flaming Lips, Ariel Pink, Erykah Badu and Ke$ha. Their impressive repertoire does not end there; they have also opened for The Flaming Lips, Bat For Lashes and Galaxie 500, and are set to release their second full length album titled AU (Alternate Universe) this coming May.

Mixed by psych artist Morgan Delt, AU is the product of several years recording. It loosely draws influence from the darker and more enigmatic side of the Michael Ende novel “The Never-Ending Story.” A hypnotic blend of both history and fantasy, AU is raw and youthful its in exploration of the transition from adolescence to adulthood.

In anticipation of AU, Hour Of The Time Majesty Twelve has released “At Night In China Town”. The psychedelic footage, shot in their now former Warehouse space, Non Plus Ultra, acts as a demonstration of communality in the aftermath of loosing their original space in Chinatown. The recent Oakland Ghost Ship fire and subsequent loss of Non Plus Ultra brings into sharp focus the less than favourable public perception of DIY warehouses, and thus makes this video even more pertinent. Hour Of The Time Majesty Twelve spoke out about their recent loss, “All of us at Non Plus Ultra have been together for years. Our ideals brought us together, and we built a space and a business on them. Non Plus Ultra showed us that we aren’t alone in our desires. There are so many people in this town who share our values. We’ve made and lost spaces before, but this time we’ve got an incredible support system.”

If this track is at all indicative of their upcoming release, we are in no doubt that they will continue to thrive.
