BACKSTAGE PASS: POLLARI

Photographer Joseph McDermott meets Atlanta rapper Pollari.

In a new access all areas series, photographer Joseph McDermott goes behind the scenes with music’s finest. First up for the Kingswinford native, Atlanta rapper Pollari spills…

So who are you, and where are you from?

Kevin Pollari, songwriter and prettiest guy in the world. I’m from Atlanta but live in Los Angeles for now.

How did you get into creating music?

All my friends made music before me, and hanging out with them made me want to get into it. I used to see Father, and Dexter and all those guys making music all the time.

And how would you describe your music?

Beautiful, freedom. I like to think of it as like a type of future space pop trap thing, really no clue how to put it in a box but that’s the closest haha.

If somebody hasn’t listened to Pollari, where should they start?

‘llarkelly’!

You’re about to play a show in Dalston. Is this your first time performing in London?

It is! I can’t fucking wait to tear it down.

Where do you get the most love outside of Atlanta?

London, LA and Texas. I definitely get love lots of other places, but those are heavy. Also a lot of places in Europe, it’s wild.

What’s the most essential thing on your rider?

Sour punch straws and water 🙂

Who’s the best artist you’ve shared a bill with?

I really just started doing shows recently. I’ve done a few cool shows in LA with some people, but the biggest was probably Ham On Everything with Makonnen and all those guys.

What song can you not get enough of right now?

‘Purple Ape’! by Sahbabii

Who’s your favourite artist or producer to collaborate with?

Sensei, he’s my other half. He helped me bring the sound out.

And who would you still like to collaborate with in terms of artists/producers?

Uh, prolly Cudi. I’ve just started working with lots of people I never imagined, but not him yet.

What can we expect next from Pollari?

Lots of love, lots of sound, me continuing this journey. We have a lot of big and special releases we can’t wait to make happen.

Any final comments?

I love you, you, you, and you… bless.
