LFW: SpongBob Gold

SpongeBob SquarePants has tapped six of fashion’s most exciting names for new SpongeBob Gold collection.

Of even the most beloved cartoon characters, few can genuinely claim to have inspired great fashion, but in his latest role – as muse to six international designers – SpongeBob SquarePants is doing just that.

Launched at London Fashion Week with a buffet of pineapple on sticks, character cookies and scrumptious cupcakes, the SpongeBob Gold collection reimagines the guy who lives under the sea, as well as his good pal Patrick and some of his most tell-tale motifs, in a 27-piece collection set to drop in May.

“It is such an honour to work with a lifelong hero of mine, the one and only SpongeBob, as I say, I’m excited my Bear and SpongeBob are finally meeting,” asserts London menswear’s Bobby Abley, whose previous collabs include The Little Mermaid and Power Rangers. “I’ll SpongeBob your SquarePants!”

Elsewhere joining Abley on the creative line-up is womenswear designer Peter Jensen, bag label Salar, trainer brand Suecomma Bonnie, jeans label Bad Denim, and jewellery label Maria Francesca Pepe. “I’ve always felt the concept of pop defined the core of my creations,” explains Pepe of her contribution. “Developing an exclusive capsule collection of jewellery featuring the pop sensation SpongeBob felt such a match! I find SpongeBob’s positive vibe and vibrant energy so addicting. He wears his heart on his sleeve and that’s why I love him.”
