Fresh off the back of his EP “More Sleep 2”, songwriter and producer A2 is making music that matters. Whether it’s writing soulful electronica or woozy R&B, A2 creates tracks that are pumped full of introspection and vulnerability. Journeying through surreal soundscapes and into musical warps, his music is authentic to the core, and it will only get better with the release of “BLUE”. This debut LP, the title of which stands for Before Love Undoes Everything, is a reflection of A2’s life, and his personal love of music. Expect the unexpected.

New Noise: A2
We chat to A2 about the release of his debut LP “BLUE”.
Tell us a bit about your sound.
It’s just me in audio format, all the noises that go around in my head.
Where did the name A2 come from?
Somebody had a similar name to me so I had to put a spin on it a little. A2.
What is your first musical memory?
Listening to Omar – “Nothing Like This”, I was probably like 2 or something. I just remember really feeling it.
Give us the low down on your EP “More Sleep 2”.
“More Sleep 2” is like a wake up call…some sort of oxymoron. That’s why the first track starts with an alarm. Just telling people to stop sleeping on me, a quick play on words.
What’s your writing process like? Are you spontaneous or meticulous?
It’s a bit of both, but I rarely write. I think of verses in my head and lay them down straight away. Sometimes I might be working on verses in my head for a while, verses, lines, melody, word play….it’s a lot of thinking. I don’t really like to waste words.
Can you tell us all about your new video for “X2”? How important are aesthetics in your work?
It’s as important as the sound, just a different element. Everyone will interpret a tune in a different way. It’s just me trying to link the sound with visual. We approached the video from a photography perspective, it had to be visually appealing the whole way through.
How did you get involved with Disturbing London?
They heard me online and found me, they actually approached me while I was in negotiations with another company, who I won’t say now, but it just felt better for me.
“I’m tryna spread like a disease, keep everyone ill for the next 25 years (in the nicest way possible).”
What can we expect from your debut LP “BLUE”?
“BLUE” summarises a period in my life, its like the closing chapter. It documents almost everything about me around that period of time, that’s why it’s taken so long. Everything had to be right, even outside of the actual recording of the project, I needed nearly perfect conditions. I’m talking about things even outside of music. There are now 7 ep’s before “BLUE”, and 7 is my lucky number. “BLUE” is an acronym for Before Love Undoes Everything. “BLUE” is about love above all, from a male perspective but based on women! It’s not about love between people, it’s about love of life, love of music, love of family. Its also about MY personal love for music, it was my priority so almost everything else got pushed to the side.
Who would your dream collaboration be with and why?
Probably Timberland, grown up listening to Missy Elliot, Aaliyah all of that. He had a strong influence. Creativity, drum patterns were always forward thinking.
Do you have any ultimate goals?
I’m tryna spread like a disease, keep everyone ill for the next 25 years (in the nicest way possible).
