Sonny and Cher. Belle and Sebastian. Ant and Dec. What do they all have in common? They are all seriously iconic double acts. But a new duo has arrived who are about become the greatest of all time: Louis Vuitton and Supreme.
Kim Jones and James Jebbia have brought their two brands together to create a collaboration that everyone is talking about. At Paris Men’s Fashion Week, the two created a palpable buzz when the collection was brought out during the Louis Vuitton AW17 showcase at the beautiful Palais Royal garden.
Inspired by the “glory days” of New York artists in the ‘70s, ‘80s, and ‘90s, Jones channeled the spirits of Keith Haring, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Andy Warhol, to create the artistic and eclectic looks on the runway. In works for about a year, the resulting collection was simply stunning, and effortlessly combined the uptown Louis Vuitton style with the downtown feel of Supreme. Even the textures used by Jones were a nod to two different styles coming together, pairing flowing shirts and scarves with stiff crocodile jackets, and breaking up the classic LV pattern with Supreme text.
Two brands that could not seem more different coming together to create something so striking was a brilliant thing to see. Both crazily iconic in their own ways, Vuitton with it’s “cult” bags and Supreme with it’s ability to create chaos when they announce they’re “dropping” an item, it isn’t surprising that their collection is instantly legendary.
As Jones said, “All I’m trying to do is create customer excitement”, and, man, are we excited about this.
