Friendsmas

Sonos present their research on Friendsmas, the cultural phenomenon that’s taking over traditional family festivities.

Do you hold a friendsmas? You’re probably holding one without even realising.

Whether its a major seasonal party or a festive low-key gathering, Sonos have found that 60% of those asked prefer Friendsmas to their traditional family festivities on the 25th. The research involved a global study of over 8,000 between 18-40.

They discovered that many felt that music was the most important part of the Friendsmas proceedings, obvs. Specifically, the findings revealed that the vast majority said that music makes food & drink taste lusher, helps them chill out and even encourages some festive flirting (perhaps it’s time to whip out the mistletoe). There was also some discussion about the Friendsmas DJ, with many saying that solo DJ’s were a thing of the past and instead they wanted software that would allow all attendees to contribute to the playlist.

As a result of this research, masterminds at Sonos have teamed up with Spotify to create the ‘Potluck Playlist’ feature that allows all party people to contribute to which bangers they want to hear. They’re also working on a guest-edit of the popular series ‘Mind of a Chef’, within which chef and co-founder of Mission Chinese Food, Danny Bowien, will host his very own Playlist Potluck. We can’t wait to try it out at our next hang out!
