Provocative and oozing homoeroticism, Mapplethorpe’s photography was controversial yet iconic. Consistently in black and white and daring to push boundaries, his work often created debate amongst critics.

To celebrate what would have Mapplethorpe’s his 70th birthday year, Alison Jacques has reached out to iconic German photographer Juergen Teller to curate an exhibition that showcases some of the photographers best work. Jacques, former News Editor of Flash Art Magazine in Milan and Curator of the British School at Rome, has been responsible for the Mapplethorpe Estate since 1999. Of asking Teller to curate the exhibit, she said: “A key artist of his time, Juergen Teller was the only choice to curate this special exhibition of Robert’s work. There are obvious parallels between these artists and I am excited to see how Juergen will bring his edge, energy and unique vision to a new reading of Robert’s work.”

TELLER ON MAPPLETHORPE will be on display at the Alison Jacques Gallery from November 18 to January 7.
