PREMIERE: SNOH AALEGRA – “FEELS”

Count your lucky stars. Swedish / LA strings and soul goddess Snoh Aalegra delivers a murky, spellbinding new track, “Feels”.

Grounded in some twangy keyboards, light drums and moody strings, Snoh’s voice takes centre stage on her latest track, “Feels”, the title track of her soon to be new project. Truly liquid sound. That’s the thing about Snoh’s music, it feels so heavily rooted in narrative and atmosphere that it’s impossible not to float away with it, borne along in a sonic current of spellbinding strings and hypnotic, jazzy rhythms, all wrapped up in Snoh’s sensuous, femme fatale vocals. At times the singer gives off an otherworldly, intergalactic quality, an effect that’s mirrored in the album artwork – think some 50’s space witch vibes and some slightly twisted marriage of Barbarella & Lichtenstein.

There’s a darkness to the sound, maybe a little taste of that hazy, haunted LA thing, something swathed in nebulous nostalgia and mystery. We’d be remiss to neglect an Amy Winehouse comparison. While it retains its own identity, Snoh’s voice has a similar rich texture to that of the late artist and delivers a familiar poignant pang of heartbreak, something Snoh seems to be tapping into even more with this latest track. Let it wash over you.
