7 Wonders: Anna Wintour's The September Issue

To celebrate the queen of fashion’s birthday, we take a look back at our favourite moments from The September Issue.

Anna Wintour’s face, shrouded in that eternal page boy cut (cut so perfectly they might actually use a stencil) is emblematic of the entire fashion industry – who else could rock that look for 50 years? But exactly what is it about her that makes her such a fascinating subject? Sure, she’s elegant and chic, but there’s something more, something totally thrilling and regal about her unapologetic power and her sway over the industry (not to mention her uncanny ability to make people hop when she says hop.) It’s her air of enigma, that perfect poker face; we mean, just look at the way she hides behind those dark, glossy glasses lenses, that makes her unknowable – and makes us think she might just be having a laugh at everyone. Respect.

Here are some of our top picks from The September Issue, i.e. Anna’s universe.

There is truly nothing more delightful than watching Anna watch runway shows. The lady can throw serious shade.

When everyone was late to the issue meeting except for Anna. We mean, just try to match that subtly furious head toss.

When Grace Coddington used the documentary makers as models in her shoot (so meta) and she wouldn’t let them photoshop his bod.

Anything that comes out of André Leon Talley’s mouth. The man is a fount of wisdom.

When we met Anna’s sassy daughter who wants to be a lawyer.

When this model ate a gorgeous tarte au framboise while sporting couture.

When Anna came out with some cracking insight into the industry.
