Perfume is in his blood, Frédéric Malle’s grandfather was the founder of Parfums Christian Dior. His 4th Parisian perfume boutique has just opened in a historic building on Rue Des Francs Bourgeois.
Looking to invent new ways of displaying perfume, Malle collaborated with architects Jakob + MacFarlane to bring his vision to life. Basing their design around conceptions of illusion and infinity, the designers drew inspiration from the Jardin d’Acclimatation’s labyrinth. The design brings an air of mysterious discovery to the perfume choosing process, the floor, walls, and ceiling are all covered in mirrors and the scents are hidden within the walls. The design centres around the idea of a box, ‘its interior resembles a carefully sculpted, three-dimensional grid, from which a series of mysterious islands – elements that become shelves, tables and refrigerated cabinets – emerge.’ The effect is truly enchanting, it feels like we’re being enveloped by some fiery furnace, ablaze with scent. Frédéric Malle’s boutique truly breathes fresh life into perfume.
