PFW: Fenty × Puma SS17

Rihanna revives the French Aristocracy for Fenty X Puma SS17.

Let Them Eat Cake

If Marie Antoinette was alive, she would have worn Fenty X Puma SS17. Inspired after a trip to the palace of Versailles, Rihanna, who managed to find time away from being one of the world’s biggest pop stars to further her design career, adopting an array of regal references. Floral fans were in hand, pearls wrapped around necks, wrists, ankles and hung off ears and corsets peeped out under a lavender brocade onesie and a pastel pink polo neck which was tucked in to reveal another matching corset. There was even a peep of a frilly white and khaki lace garter and a cutesy babydoll layered under a floor-length white coat and paired with a pearl choker.

Princess Pastels

For SS17, there was no colour scheme prettier than pastels for Fenty x Puma. The collection was largely made of marshmallow white, baby pink and lilac, with even the darker tones dialling down and become more muted. Beige and muddy browns were present, but were a more muted and made girly – have we seen the invention of pastel brown? This isn’t to say that it was all twee and cute though, the over-sized floor length coats in white and khaki were tougher than anything.

Sugary Sport

For SS17, oversized bows and tracksuits live in harmony. As much as the collection was pretty and girly, it was also sporty, tough and made a statement. The khaki tracksuit, complete with PUMA logo stitched on over floral print, the baseball caps, skin-tight brown jumpsuit and a beige corset (with frills and lace overlays – obvs) was paired with beige tracksuit bottoms, all proved that Fenty x Puma SS17 can do both pretty and tough. It’s a hard line to walk, but Rihanna makes it so easy.
