NYFW: Thakoon SS17

We headed to Brooklyn for Thakoon’s see now, buy now runway show.

Guess Who’s Back

Thakoon Panichgul is back, and he isn’t the same designer operating the same brand like how he was back in 2009 when the spotlight was on him in the fashion documentary “ The September Issue”. First, the brand was acquired by Bright Fame Fashion, the Hong-Kong based investment company headed by Vivian Chou. Second, he recently opened a new store in downtown Manhattan —70 Wooster to be exact. And lastly, Panichgul r has joint some of his peers –Tom Ford, Burberry, Rebecca Minkoff– in adopting the see now, buy now show format so those who made their way to Brooklyn to see the runway debut watched 31 Fall 2016 looks walk down the runway.

Fall Fashion Hit Brooklyn

With the Brooklyn Bridge serving as the backdrop for the night, Thakoon unleashed an autumn line filled with superb layering —a wrap windowpane skirt, funnel neck knit sweater and wool cape layered over the lace silk crepe de chine dress attests to that— and some of the best outerwear that we will see all season. What’s sure to be a favorite for his customers: the dot embroidered trench coat, a mohair teddy bear coat, and the Alpaca-wool tailored jacket. Prints also played a significant role throughout the collection, the strongest being the plaid found on a cape jacket and oversized coats but a butterfly print and a more traditional floral print graced a couple of dresses as well.

The Waiting Game

Deep down even though the clothes may find homes in more than one of the editor’s closets who attended the show you have to wonder, will this see now by now thing work? Most of these looks are available on Thakoon’s official website, Thakoon.com, right now and in the new shop so only time will tell if opting to change his business structure will translate into sales, sales and more sales. Here, however, is what can be said, if we had to base our guess strictly on how the clothes look then there is a bright future ahead for Mr. Panichgul.
