Premiere – Rushmore: “Ours After” ft. Josh Caffe

Tune in to slick electronic beats and soft vocals with “Ours After” by Rushmore ft. Josh Caffe.

Inspired by the music that has been gifted to us from generations before, Rushmore, who has always been on the frontline of London’s underground club scene, has created his debut album as an artist in his own right. We know, we’re super excited too. Featuring 13 tracks, the album’s first single is the title track “Ours After” featuring vocalist and producer Josh Caffe, who’s a seasoned regular on the underground house and techno scene. Released on Rushmore’s own clothing and record label Trax Couture, the track perfectly merges his stripped back approach to club music with elements of grime, ghetto house and techno. The vocals, sung by collaborator Josh Caffe who tells a story through the eyes of a personal relationship in the track, are soft in comparison, but fit in perfectly over the slick electronic beats that are a signature element on a lot of Rushmore’s tracks.

Rushmore’s video for his track “Ours After” ft Josh Caffe, directed by Akinola Davies Jr, is as good as the track itself. Starting off with a split screen featuring a shots of blue fur and yellow velvet, the video moves through split screens the whole way, capturing the essence of the transwomen Rushmore and Caffe are filming. Featuring Rushmore and Caffe behind-the-lens, the video has a narrative designed to showcase the beauty of transwomen, something that is often overlooked. The sets reference a combination of paintings by Enrique Grau – a Colombian artist renowned for depictions of Amerindian and Afro Colombian figures – and the work of Malick Sidibe, who’s documentary photography explores youth culture in the Malian capital. Both of these artists were instrumental in redefining indigenous beauty standards in the communities they serviced – similar to what Rushmore and Caffe are doing here. We can’t wait for the album to drop on 29 July, but for now, the “Ours After” video fulfils all our musical desires.
