Julian Zigerli SS17

Julian Zigerli addresses the word SORRY with his SS17 collection.

“SORRY” seems like an odd title to give a collection, but the under-appreciated word, and what it actually often means, was what sparked the idea for Swiss designer Julian Zigerli’s SS17 collection. “SORRY” is actually about not being sorry at all” says Zigerli of his inspiration for the collection, which looks at all those things we say sorry for (but don’t actually mean it), like binge watching TV in our pyjamas, spending all day skating around in sun and avoiding responsibilities, and power napping at airports, with other inspirations being taken from nature, computer generated imagery, skaters and interestingly, empty promises. Zigerli also partnered with QWSTION for an exclusive range of reflective travel accessories, which were paired with doodled-on Converse and skate shoes, to go with the slightly-battered skateboards, naturally.

Even though Zigerli designs menswear, it is always placed as unisex and for this season he created his first womenswear looks. The collection was presented at the iconic Palais de Toyko in Paris, and was a collection of garments created with Zigerli’s statement aesthetic, where the practical, smart and technical elements shone through with the love, colour and humour that he always brings into his designs. Pleated linens, high quality cottons – quality is a trademark of Zigerli’s designs – tech-printed viscose and reflective nylon came in a range of whites, beiges, sky blues, inks, pastel pinks, grey marls and khaki, as Zigerli’s way of representing the things we should and shouldn’t be sorry for. His usual extroverted prints were back with bold graphic shapes and hand prints; they came in striking colours, but still maintained effortless wearability and comfort, giving us the best of both worlds. Take a leaf out of Zigerli’s book and stop saying sorry.
