The supreme elegance of Somerset House proved the perfect location for Chanel’s big celebration last week in honour of their recently shown AW16 beauty collection. The inaugural collection by their Global Creative Makeup Director, Lucia Pica – a sure call for celebration if ever there were one – the line is entitled “Fall 2016. Le Rouge. Collection N°1”, and focuses, unsurprisingly given its name, on the colour red, exploring and reimagining its resonances in both abstract and expressive ways.
Discussing her collection, Pica remarked: “I am obsessed with the colour red, I always have been. There is strength and emotion, warmth and disruption in red. It is a colour that has both a sense of the real and the radical about it. Red is so strong for me and yet it is also intrinsic to the world of Chanel.” As well as working on the “Le Rouge” itself though, Pica also oversaw a series of image and films (exhibited at Somerset House) that charted her design process, documented her creative journey, and her explored her genuinely emotive responses to the colour red.
Helping Pica celebrate this stunning and intelligent collection were a host of Chanel favourites, including former Wonderland cover babe and the face of the collection, Kristen Stewart, as well as Erin O’Connor, Lady Amelia Windsor, Laura Bailey, James Norton and Jorja Smith, Oh, and Hanna Hanra, Mount Kimbie, and Jenny Bastet all had a go on the decks. Sounds like our kind of party, no?
