Premiere: Yellow Shoots – "Raven"

Yellow Shoots explores virulent relationships in his new track “Raven”.

Seeing as the name Yellow Shoots came about from the colours he envisioned while writing music, it’s not a surprise that Greg Matthews (the mastermind behind Yellow Shoots) is on to something incredibly unique and special. That name stems from the yellow and gold colours he was visualising while in his happy/somber writing groove back during a song writing session that took place 3 years ago in his Brooklyn apartment. We told you he was unique. Originally from Philadelphia, Yellow Shoots creates a hybrid sound that fuses together so many influences it’s impossible to pin him down to one genre. Taking a myriad of cues from jazz, gospel, soul, RnB and rock, Yellow Shoots creates an ambient RnB sound with guitar and electronic elements that fuse seamlessly together.

Yellow Shoots’ new track “Raven” explores the turbulent emotions surrounding a virulent relationship. With topics including sexual addiction, tension and pain, this isn’t a track for the faint-hearted. Yellow Shoot’s carefully-crafted lyrics layer over his balanced sound of soulful RnB with electronic bass beats, proving him to be a master of all musical elements. Singing and recording every instrument heard in “Raven”, including the synths, drum machine and bass, he also produced it himself, and collaborated with Jon Buscemi to mix the track and Dan Millice to master it. “Raven” connects with the pain everyone feels when they want what they can’t have.
