Father's Day Rescue – Haig Club Whisky

The good folks at Haig Club have (thankfully) got us sorted for that annual Father’s Day gift crisis.

Father’s Day ‘ey, who’d have it? Still, given that it’s basically compulsory unless your Dad is fiercely anti-commercial and has a major problem with terrible greeting cards, you may as well do it right. And no, last year’s Best of Kenny G CD and out-of-season Halloween socks didn’t quite cut the mustard. So what to get for the Dad who has everything – or is too grumpy to appreciate anything he hasn’t picked out for himself? The answer is simple and very nearly universal: a bottle of whisky.

Sure, it’s not exactly a ground-breaking present, but as this particular single grain is down to the guys at Scottish distillery Haig Club, a smile is all but guaranteed when the Old Man pulls back that wrapping paper. Developed in collaboration with entrepreneur Simon Fuller (the man who you can thank for your childhood obsession with Pop Idol) and avid whisky drinker (and former footballer) David Beckham, the Haig Club is a unique flavour proposition with butterscotch and toffee notes lending a rich sweetness to proceedings. That depth of flavour ensures a truly versatile whisky; one that’s just at home sitting on the rocks as it is mixed up in an Old Fashioned – because what Dad doesn’t secretly harbour dreams of being Don Draper?

The bottle isn’t bad either, made of shadowy blue glass and formed in a unique square shape, it’s an eminently sleek proposition that’ll stand out from the innumerable brown booze bottles that already populate your Dad’s liquor cabinet. Oh, and for those on student budgets (or just those fancying grabbing a drop of the stuff for themselves), Haig Club also comes in a travel-friendly 5cl bottle: the little brother of the iconic 45cl size. So raise a glass to the guys saving your bacon this Sunday: bottoms up!

Haig Club is avilable from Selfridges and Waitrose stores nationwide.
