The BFC have annouced their plans today for this year’s The Fashion Awards. Formerly known as a little something you might remember as the British Fashion Awards – which last year recognised the prodigious talents of, among others, superstar Johnathan Anderson by awarding him the title of Best Menswear and Womenswear Designer 2015 – the name change for this year’s proceedings stresses the increasingly international focus of the awards.

However, the primary focus of the new format is to raise significant funds over the next ten years for education scholarships that will help the best talent attend leading fashion colleges. This means the awards will be one big bonanza of a fundraiser for the BFC’s Education Foundation Charity – as well, of course, as one of the most prestigious fashion gongs around.

The Fashion Awards, which will take place on the 5th of May at the Royal Albert Hall (told you it was big), are made possible through collaboration with diamond dons Swarovski, who remarked that they are “delighted to partner again with the BFC on the Fashion Awards”. Dame Natalie Massenet, BFC Chairman, meanwhile, was understandably excited that the BFC is making “a commitment to support talented people from all backgrounds to fulfill their dreams and access the best universities in the world.” She went on to say, “London is seen as the capital for the most creative new talent in the world…[and]…provides talent and energy for the global fashion industry.” Couldn’t have said it better ourselves!
