Breaking: Anthony Vaccarello leaves Versus Versace

Another one bites the fashion dust. Anthony Vaccarello leaves Versus Versace after just a year at the helm.

Versus Versace have announced today that Anthony Vaccarello will not be renewing his contract as Creative Director of the brand. The Belgium designer, who made a name for himself thanks to his eponymous label and it’s body-conscious, grungy aesthetic, was appointed just over a year ago to head up the Versace diffusion line, following, incidentally, in the footsteps of lauded designers J.W. Anderson and Christopher Kane – who also both held the position of CD at Versus.

In his short time at Versus, Vaccarello’s blend of rock’n’roll spirit and high-octane glamour has won him many fans, not least his mentor, Donatella Versace, who said of that news, “while I’m sad to see him leave the Versace family, I wish Anthony Vaccarello tremendous success with his next chapter.” The news comes just days after Kering announced that Hedi Slimane would be leaving his position at Saint Laurent, and the timing of these two dispatches only seems to confirm long-running rumors that Vaccarello will be tapped to take over from Slimane. The pairing would certainly make sense given the similarities between the Saint Laurent look and Vaccarello’s. Either way, we’ll be keeping you abreast of whatever happens next: stay tuned!
