Premiere: Jolly Mare – "Hungry Angry"

Meet the new face of Italian disco, Jolly Mare.

If you were anywhere near Bestival’s Discotheque Stage last summer, chances are you were probably getting down to the disco sound of Fabrizio Martina, better known by his moniker Jolly Mare. Since graduating from the Red Bull Music Academy in New York, the Italian DJ and producer has been getting around quite a bit: he recently opened for both Masters at Work and Roy Ayers, and has already collaborated with the likes of Soul Clap and Thundercat. Well, what else would you expect from the man dubbed ‘the new face of Italian disco’?

His new track “Hungry Angry” is seven minutes in electronic heaven: a dewy disco jam that slowly descends into an earthy guitar groove full of grit, it somehow manages to stay both futuristic and funky. The track is set to feature on Jolly’s new album Mechanics, which he describes as a conceptual journey through the mechanics of groove and the dynamics of love — coming from a man with an MSc in Mechanical Engineering and a PhD in Vibration Dynamics under his belt, we’re understandably expecting big things. With the album slated for release on 8th April, we figured it was the perfect time to get chatting to Italy’s finest dance music export.
